The contemporary scene is filled with various designs of high heels from different brands. Over the years, high heels have evolved in so many ways we can imagine that it went from simple to bizarre. We commonly see high heels every day and almost every woman we know happens to be wearing a pair. However, have you ever come to realize the history of high heels and where and when it all began?
The early medieval Europeans were the first people ever recorded in history to wear high heels. They were referred to as high-heeled footwear. Most commonly used by women as well as by men. High heels back then were used as a symbol of stature. If you're rich and wearing high heels, you’re called a well-heeled man. Other than looking graceful, men and women in early Europe wore high heels to look bigger and taller.
Today, however, high heels are more commonly seen as fashionable accessories worn by women. Mostly, the contemporary uses of high heels aren’t for your everyday commute but rather for a more enhanced outer physique. With the buttocks appearing larger, the chest appearing more prominent, and the legs being elongated. Perhaps today, high heels are commonly seen as pieces of fashion. Although the early Europeans did so, they were more inclined to wear high heels to boost their political and social status.
